Taylored Expressions Blast from the Past Blog Hop

Happy Thursday! Today I'm participating in a blog hop hosted by Taylored Expressions. The theme was "Old Glory" and we had to use the patriotic color combination of red, white, and blue. This was our sketch inspiration by Sankari Wegman:

When I signed up for this challenge, I immediately knew I wanted to use the Cuppie in San Francisco image along with some fireworks. This is the card I came up with:

If you can believe it, I colored the main image with my Prismacolor colored pencils! I know...shocking for those of you who know me because my coloring weapon of choice is usually Copic markers. The only part I used one color of Copic marker is for the sand area. The base is colored with E31 Brick Beige and I went over the shadows with a sandy brown colored pencil.

I didn't want to leave the background of the image white so my husband suggested coloring a sunset. That was a challenge! I'd never done a sunset before so I hope it turned out okay! I found a picture of a sunset online as a reference.

For the ruffled ribbon effect, I took two strips of super sticky Scor-Tape and made ribbon pleats on top and then used tiny glue dots to keep the ruffles down. I like how that turned out!

I found a flower sunburst stamp from A Muse Studio that I though mimicked fireworks so I stamped that in red and blue ink. Then, I took my handy Sakura Glue pen and "colored" each petal and pour yummy A Muse Studio Diamond Glitter all over it! Sooo sparkly!!!

Usually it's a rare occasion to have a clear skies when fireworks go off in San Francisco. Most of the time we see colored fog!  Hee hee!

I'm so fortunate to live so close to the Golden Gate Bridge and admire it's beauty in person every time I get the craving to get some good Dim Sum in the city!

Please check out all the creations of the other participants and have a super day!

For A Special Teacher - Taylored Expressions February Blast from the Past Blog Hop

Welcome new and old friends! Thanks for stopping in and checking out my creation for the blog hop hosted by Taylored Expressions! The creative focus was "Going Green" and we were to create a card using the color green or incorporate a recycled element in our project. I followed this sketch they provided:

Here's the card I came up with:

I wanted to make a card that celebrates all the super wonderful teachers out there and I thought the Teacher Desk Cuppie stamp was perfect for it! My starting point was with the pretty green and blue pattern paper I selected from Cosmo Cricket for the background...don't you think it's pretty? I paper-pieced some that paper for the desk as well.

Then, I used a bunch of my Copic Spica glitter pens and colored all the accessories on the desktop with it. Gotta love all that sparkle! I ran into a little snag trying to find a red pearl to add to Cuppie's head but then I remembered I had some white pearls on my desk and used a dark red Copic to color the surface of the pearl...perfect!

I hope you enjoyed my creation for the hop and have fun checking out the rest!

Ball Game Cuppie in San Francisco

Last weekend, my family and I went to a San Francisco Giants ball game against the San Diego Padres at AT&T Park in San Francisco. We had such a blast that day! One of the drilling companies that my husband's work does business with paid for all of us to get in. When we arrived, we all got a Giants ball cap, company t-shirt, and all the kids were given some pocket change for snacks and such. What a treat for all of us. We also arrived in time for all the kids to get a giveaway bright orange baseball shirt!

I thought I would make the drilling company a card so my husband and his co-workers could sign thanking them for their generosity.

Of course I had to use Destination Cuppie in San Francisco from Taylored Expressions for the main image. I also incorporated orange and black for the Giants team colors.  I used the Clouds paper from A Muse for the background so it wouldn't look to Halloween-y.

I colored this image with my Copic markers. For the sandy area, I used a kitchen rag soaked in colorless blender to give it a more sand-like texture.

I randomly stamped baseballs all over the inside of the card in Tangerine Tango by Stampin' Up!.

For the baseball, I punched out a circle from white cardstock and took a red marker to draw the stitching of the ball. Then, I stamped the sentiment by A Muse in the middle. I then punched out a smaller circle, cut it out in a spiral design, and attached one small end to the card and the other to the baseball for a 3D effect.

Thanks Pitcher Drilling for such a fun and fabulous day!

Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #118

Every week, Taylor Van Bruggen of Taylored Expressions posts a sketch challenge for anyone that wants to take part. I am proud to post my very first sketch just in the nick of time! Hop on over to Taylor's blog and check out all the entries. Tomorrow's the last day to enter.

I soo love this Crafter Cuppie set...if you're a crafter, you have to get it!  It has five images of Cuppie stamping, scrapping, sewing, knitting, and painting along with sentiments.  There's also an additional coordinating set called Crafty Expressions with other images and sentiments.

I used Bazzill Dotted Swiss in Pirouette as the 5 1/2" square card base and as one of the scalloped borders.  The patterned paper is from Basic Grey's Nook and Pantry collection. The solid cardstocks are Shimmer Couture from A Muse.

I used my Copic markers to color in the main image.  Cuppie's apron is paper pieced from the BG Nook and Pantry.  For the jar of glitter, I used the Sakura Glue pen (miracle product) first to make dots inside the jar and sprinkled it with Taylor's glitter in Waterfall.  Oh so sparkly...I love how shimmery her glitters are!

The postal cancel stamp image is from Paper Source, stamped in Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate pigment ink, and embossed with clear powder over the ink to give it a raised texture. It's hard to tell in the picture but it's there.

Here's the inside of the card.  I stamped one of the sentiments from Crafty Expressions in Adirondack Espresso along with the ink pad image in Colorbox Fluid Chalk Berrylicious.

I'm really happy with how my card turned out!  Thanks for the challenge Taylor!
